Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below:
We do not feel the earth’s movement because
we are travelling with it at the same speed. But it does move in two ways.
First of all, it spins round on its axis just like a top. The axis is through
the top and bottom of the earth—the north and the south poles. The earth makes
one complete revolution in twenty four hours. This spinning causes our days and
nights. Day is when our part of the earth’s globe is facing the sun. Night is
when we spin out of reach of the sun’s rays. Astronomers call the whole twenty
four hour period the ‘Solar Day’. The earth spins towards the east which makes
the sun, appear to move in. the opposite direction from East to West.
The earth’s second motion is its orbit around
the sun which is 150 million Kilometers away. It takes the earth almost 365
days to travel once round its orbit. This period we call a year. The other. planets
each have a ‘day’ and a ‘year’ but their days and years are different from the
earth’s because they are of different sizes and lie at different distances from
the sun.
